My Galaxy is my second and last Samsung phone. To think that I chose it because it was a bit cheaper than an iphone!
I like my mac and I'm keeping it. The phone is going. All I want to do is move some files across to the thing!

I have a Mac too and I love it and I definitely WILL keep it. I was also amazed that Kies is only for Win..What're you going to do. Iphone sucks and Winphones are even worse...So I downloaded Kies on an old netbook I had sitting around...and when Froyo comes out, I'm using my old netbook for that and nothing else. But my Galaxy stays, are you kidding?? You're getting rid of it???

Another thing that you can do is to use BootCamp just for devices' upgrades. Infact galaxy is not the only one on the market that requires Windows to be updated. So you can install a minimal Windows XP or 7 on BootCamp and use all the hardware equipment of our mac. I love my Galaxy S too and I will pass to an iPhone only when Apple gets it free, cheaper, with battery replaceable, with microsd possibility and a little bit less heavy. By now I don't like iPhone at all.

 +1 andrea.duni

I'm a long time Mac user with a history pre-Mac of PC use.
I opted for the Samsung Galaxy S i9000 for two reasons, because of the long wait for iPhone 4 to have enough supply to satisfy demand, and some of the reasons posted by andrea.duni.

One thing I have learned over a long time is that access to a PC is inevitable in the myriad of devices offered today. Why restrict my options to the one proprietary manufacterer, and yes I do appreciate the 'it just works' difference believe me.

But surely 'backup' is a consideration before purchasing any device. Isn't it.
Even Apple devices require a backup strategy.

Pickup a small cheap PC and use it for running Kies and backing up the Galaxy S, don't just dump the device because software's not addressing OSX yet.

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for the link to Kies for Mac download. I downloaded, installed, connected my Galaxy S, but nothing happens at all. On the Kies screen I just see the possibility of transferring mulimedia files, but nothing about firmware upgrades. Nor does the software appear to recognize that a phone is connected to the Mac, although the USB connection seems to charge the phone. So any ideas? I'd really most of all like to update to the most recent version of Android. Thanks

ciao andrea,

I have downloaded and installed KiesMac, but when i connect the phone to usb plug,  kies starts with "ongoing connection" and it stops there trying to connect with no success and no errors.

I also found a newer version (KiesMac_1.0.0.11062_33), same result.

My phone is a GT-I9000 Galaxy S and I am using a MacMini with OSX 10.6.8

I agree 100% with this. I have downloaded and installed the software from the provided URL. All I seem to be able to do is transfer music from iTunes into Keis. I can attach the phone via the cable and get it to charge but am unable to transfer and data (music or photos) from phone to MAC or vice versa.

Interesting to see the download is called Keis beta. Does this mean its still being developed and currently does not work??

Ok, spoke with Samsung yesterday and here is their response.

"Unfortunately there is no version of Kies that does work with a Macintosh so there is no way to sync with Kies, but if you
change your USB settings to Mass Storage, you can connect to your Macintosh as a mass storage device. "
