Hi, I am trying to update Android 2.1 on 2.2 desperately since two days.

Problem: Kies does not connect to my phone even though it is in connection mode and MTP driver is installed. When plugged in it always shows a connecting status.

What I tried so far:
  • Unmounting and formating internal drive. And remove external drive. Here the funny part is, if I am trying to connect to Kies with unmounted internal drive (and no other SD-Card), the mobile screen starts flickering. (Common bug which is caused by long file extensions on internal drive. Since this is formated and even unmounted, I really can't explain this.)
  • Reinstalling Kies and using debugging Mode on Android does not help ether. Even mass storage does not work. Drives are not available for use.
  • Latest moves was trying to reset the phone to factory settings. The internal reset (privacy - reset) or the samsung dial code for resetting don't solve the problem. Trying the complete reset with pressing different combinations with Volume,Home and Power button (combination seems to depend on age of phone) were not successful. No way to get into the settings menu to select the factory settings.

Additional info: I am not using the original cable. Got lost and I am using a Nokia one instead.
My Phone is not rooted and I am using the standard ROM.

I don't know where to continue from there. With all the steps above I deleted my apps and don't want to put them back on since the solution maybe forces me to reset again. So my phone is kind of naked and as you know that's not exactly why we bought an Android phone. So I would really appreciate your help!

Cheers
Moritz

Sounds like you know the answer you just don't want to do it. Get an original cable (or a blackberry one) - at least you're not getting a factory reset recommendation Big Smile. Apparently some cables are charge only so data doesn't transfer even though the cable fits.

Hey Caszs, hope you are right. Just ordered a new one. Seems wired though, because the cable is from a nokia phone which had data transferring capability as well.

PS: BB has a different ending. My bold 9000's one is bigger than the GT-I9000's.

Anyway, I keep you posted in case someone else has problems like this.

Cheers! and further comments are always welcome

New cable
New Kies update
No connection

Well I do know now, that it's not the cable. With the new update of Kies, the media and the mass storage connection is working. And even with the "Kies connection" I am able to see an additional "mobile device" in my working space and I am fully able to transfer data.

PS: I also tried to reinstall the Kies drivers coming with it again. No success.

Please tell me what else I can do. Cheers!

Hi,

I bought my SGS a month ago and I'll upgrade from 2.1 to Froyo 2.2.1. this weekend.
What I did till now are: downloaded and installed "Samsung_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86", rooting via "Super1Click", unlocked my phone and fixed the 3 buttons
process (volume up+power+home). And of course I've downloaded the rom(I9000XXJPY)
and Odin/Heimdall. You can use Odin or Heimdall to upgrade process.

Ok let me get this straight.

Your phone is detected by the computer when you plug the Phone in Kies Mode Right?

Like is there any indication on the computer if the phone is plugged in?

Saszseb, I like your initiative. But I believe OP wants to do it the legit way.

Either way good work. Repped.

Lol, I don't know about window.

There is a saying in Hindi.

"Agar Ghee Seedi Ungli se Na liklai toh Ungli taeri Karni par thi hai"

When you can't get the butter out with a straight finger, you need to bend the finger.

It refers more often to Politics or how you need to bend rules.

I am too facing the same problem as mib.moritz . My SGS was connecting to Kies and working prefectly. Got the recent firmware update to Froyo2.2 via Kies about two months back. Recently Kies altogether stopped recognising my phone. When i tried opening Kies yesterday it came up a message asking for an update of Kies, which i did (Ver.2.0.0.11014_49). Connected the SGS via USB after 4-5 attempts recognised the phone but very sluggish and then came a msg asking for firmware update. Followed instruction asking to backup data, then it all together stops saying phone has been disconnected. This repeated for 3-4 times. Finally i gave up.
Any Help

I would Suggest you to Uninstall Kies and use the Uninstaller from the site.

Restart before attempting to Reinstall.

I am now thinking maybe you have a bad cable.

Your problems don't match many other ones.

Can you go into Device Manager and check if there are any Yellow question marks?

It is upto you to want to get an Iphone, It is a shame that you didn't know what you were getting.

The Problem is that samsung did deliver what it intended but the experience was spoiled by all the bloat-ware from the carriers like Orange, Verizon, and what not.

If you want what you paid for you will unfortunately have to flash it to Official Samsung ROM.

That way you get what you want.

Peace.
