In MS Outlook you can assign a contact to a "Category" which I assume is the Kies/Samsung Galaxy S equivalent of "Groups".  If this is so, Kies doesn't seem to know it.  Sad

I have over 1500 contacts divided into about 20 groups.  How do I make Kies and my Galaxy S phone recognize the Outlook Categories as Groups?

I personally hate Kies! it always locks up my laptop, so i don't use it at all.  I have my SGS sync OTA with my company outlook email, contacts and calendar.  Works very well, much better now that my phone is updated to 2.2 (factory after phone repaired last week sheesh!) On my outlook contacts i choose the "By Category" tab and edit my contacts as per the category i want, when done, i "send/receive" ( hit F9 key) to send to server, then on phone i go to menu/settings/accounts and sync/my corporate account(i have contacts&calendar both "checked"/ menu "sync now" should come up. Mine only takes a few minutes and voila! everything sync'd and updated. (just redid all 300 contacts on mine on the weekend) If you have that many contacts, it could take a little while for everything to sync be patient.  This way will sync everything to your corporate account, not the phone itself, so when you go to your "contacts" on your phone and then go to "groups" scroll down to Corporate account and your "categories" that you input in Outlook should be there! Mine is working really well.  when i make a change on my phone, sync it, F9 in outlook, boom its there! and visa versa! Hope this helps!

Thanks for answering, but I gave up on the forum for this and found an app called CompanionLink for Outlook which does a great job of syncing automatically my contacts in Outlook, Google and on the GalaxyS.  It costs US$40 but to me it's worth it.

I have the same problem, that my 2932 contact, all the categories form outlook is missing.
To fix it : 1. Deletted first all contact in device, 2. Export the contact from outlook to CSV file., 3. Import account to webmail (your account gmail). 4. Syncronize your device to webmail.

Until now, i didn't fine to syncronize since upgrade to the lates KIES and FirmWare. There is no problem anymore with connecting (Which at first allways signed "Connecting......"), bu the contact still can not appear in kies even the syncronize was 100% succsess.

Oh.....my ....... my......., i think it's better use WP7 for hande syncronize data outlook.

I have the same problem. I would like to have the Outlook Categories on my phone (Contacts and Calendar)
I DONT use Google to sync nor have Corporate Exchange Server NOR do I want to buy a third party product. I keep it simple... MS Outlook on my PC sync via USB to my phone. Any tips for KIES ?
