Hi Guys!

I have been a keen follower of this forum since I got my SGS. I am really happy with it!

I have heard that there have been some SGS users in the Philippines that have gotten their official gingerbread updates already and so I wanted to update my firmware too.

However, to do that, I have to connect to Kies, right?? I tried for 3 days already trying everything i could find (uninstall in device manager, tried on different computers, formatting my phone, restore factory settings, etc.) but couldn't.

I have Windows XP Service Pack 3 and I have the official froyo 2.2.1 firmware on my SGS.

It always says connecting even though it says that the hardware was installed successfully.

And so I read that I should reboot my phone will it is connected to the computer so I did that and got connected but the current firmware version does not show anything.

Could you help me?Please????

Im getting desperate.

Hi! I have tried on my Windows XP which did not work.

I then tried it on my dad's Windows 7 laptop but still the same result.

Lastly, I tried it on my brother's Windows Vista desktop and still no cigar.

XXJPU.

Interesting. Did you flash this device? If not where did you buy it from?

Peace.

I think the place i bought it from flashed it. I wasn't aware that time that it was flashed. It seems to be flashed because when i looked at the "About Phone" there is a "root@sep-55#1" under the kernel version. could i unflash it? do you think it will solve the problem or just use odin?

Hmm, "unflashing" is something completely different and I don't think you mean it in the right sense of the word.

Unflashing if such a word exists would mean to format the Flash Drive completely and leave no way to reflash it.

What I think you meant was to get it back to factory settings. If that is so then you would need to goto Samsung.

If all you want to do is update the device to gingerbread which I think you do then please follow this guide.

The chance of bricking is a sensitive issue.

I would love to say that it's completely safe but that is not true.

As a software developer you are nailed with the concept "The User is Always Dumb", as such you need to cover all the bases so as to keep your software from crashing. In that light telling, flashing is actually very refined but it is still software, and big software with big libraries always contain bugs at a micro level and this leads to a small chance of bricking.

Armed with all this information, as long as you stick to the instructions you should be Okay.

Peace.

I have a similar problem but even worse that Kies does not show the "Backup" tab. This happens after I have upgraded to Gingerbread (2.3.3) of the Samsung official version. I tried to upgrade the Kies to the latest version but it does not help. Any one can help?

Sorry I don't use Kies gave up on it a long time ago.

If you want a good backup solution look at Titanium Backup in the market.

Peace.
