Thanks - will have a try tomorrow and let you know if it works!

Just updated to XP SP3 to see if that had any effect - can confirm that it doesn't!

If parallel works anything like VirtualBox, where you have to select the connected usb peripherals you want to use in the windows environment.

Then try this plug the phone in Kies mode wait for the phone to say connected. Then make sure Kies is up and running in your windows. Now mount it on windows.

This is the only method that worked for me in Eclairs.

It works the same in as far as you have to mount to windows when you first connect the phone  -  problem is that once the correct drivers are installed, it stops asking and automatically recognises the phone in windows.

Am taking your advice and remembering that Kies hates me and likes to mess with me.

Will give Virtualbox a crack tomorrow and follow your guide.

Thanks so much for your help!  Appreciate it

You may wish to try and Remove kies with the New uninstaller on their Site before you do that.
And then try to reinstall.

Let me know how it went.

I had to uninstall Kies and the SGS drivers. Reboot laptop then re-install Kies, connected SGS drivers auto installed and Kies worked fine.
Running Kies_1.5.3.10103_102_1. SGS froyo 2.2Win7 Home premium.
I uninstalled Kies using 'Your Unin-staller 2010' http://www.ursoftware.com/?ref=AboutBox as it uninstalls every last file delete's what programs leave behind.

Whenever i plug my phone into the computer and go to the homescreen, it says its connected. The instalation wizard show up on my computer, but it always says it fails to install because it cannot find the correct software. I didnt get a CD or anything with my phone, and my work wont let me get on 95% of websites. If anyone has any tips or a website to download this from that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

There is no way to connect the Galaxy to the PC (Storage mode is well, not Kies mode). The steps that I followed in 2 different PCs (WinXPx32 Win7x64) with the same results:

1. Format the SD.
2. Disable internal sd card (no external). Kies USB set by default. Winamp uninstall or disable the "Automount".
3. Install latest Kies
4. Connect the phone with the USB cable

Result: Windows detected the phone and keep trying to install it but fail every time. It's an infinte process, it doesn't stop to recognize and fail-install de MTP and SAMSUNG_Android devices. I can't go to Device Manager and disable anything because the devices are appearing and disappearing.

Some help please? Crying(

sure. I had my SGS USB set to "Ask..." and when I connected the USB cable, it asked what I want to do. I always choose "Samsung Kies". This NEVER worked for me.

However, when I configured the SGS USB to specifically "Samsung Kies", it worked first time when I connected the USB.

Has to be a bug in the software or phone. But hey, I now have it working.

Oh, and I'm using Win7 Ultimate 64bit. I mention this because I've seen a lot of posts thinking that Kies doesn't work on Win7 or even 64bit.

I've not looked into syncing etc. Just interested in upgrading firmware.

I found the solution, easy and straight forward.
Problems:
1. I installed Kies from the CD that comes with the mobile and tried to connect it failed.  HUH?
2. I updated the Kies and tried to connect the mobile and it failed as well.  Embarrased

The best way that worked smoothly:
1. Do not install Kies from the CD that comes with the mobile.
2. Download the kies from www.samsungmobile.com (under Support link after selecting your mobile type eg. Galaxy S).
3. Install it and everything will go smoothly.  Big Grin

It seems that the Kies shipped with the mobile has some corrupted file and even the update from Samsung is not solving the issue.  Big Grin

Just download the whole thing from the web and give it a shot. The issue is the size of the file is 130 MB, which I believe will take some time   Wink Wink

Are you Kuwaiti my friend?

Either way thank you for your input. This has been mentioned somewhere in this 30 post thread. So the reignition of this solution may help some people who jump straight to the end.

Peace.
