Hey all,

got my Galaxy S yesterday and found this forum while searching for solution for this problem.
Seems that everyone has had a bit different solution how they've got it to work, I thought I'd post mine since it turned out to be quite easy (don't know if I'm lucky or if it's a working solution for everyone)

First of all, I'm running the latest Kies (1.5.1.10074_2) and Win7 Pro x64. Had the same MTP installation problem each time I plugged my phone to the computer. How I got it to work finally was this:

1. Don't plug your phone to the computer yet.
2. Open Kies, from the settings turn off the options 'automatically start monitoring for device connection when Windows starts' and 'Start Kies automatically when device is connected'. For some reason the MTP installation failed each time Kies was open at the same time.
3. In Kies, click the Kies file menu on top of the application and select Driver recovery. Let it install the drivers, then reboot your computer.
4. Once rebooted, Kies shouldn't be running. Then plug your phone to the usb connection and select Samsung Kies mode.
5. Wait for the usb device to be detected and the drivers to be installed. Now the MTP installation shouldn't fail.
6. Start Kies and begin using your phone.

Hope this works for you guys too who've been having the same problem. Also, please comment and let us know if it worked for you.

Edit: Look here before you continue with my suggestion, see post by michaelames: http://www.samsunggalaxysforum.com/samsung-galaxy-s-how-to/mtp-app-on-the-phone-keep-flashing-on-and-off/msg2151/

I saw this solution somewhere (maybe here!?) and it did work for me Happy

1. Backup youre media (Photos movies etc) Use bluetooth or USB, whatever works for you because all youre media will be erased. (Contacts, applications and sms will remain on phone. Some apps store data on sd-card though. Please dont blame me if you loose something important.
2. Press menu button and select "settings". Then go to "sd-card and phone memory"
3. Choose "uninstall sd-card" then "Format sd-card"
4. Restart youre phone

Before you connect it to the computer uninstall any previus versions of KIES and Samsung USB driver. Then install latest version of kies which you will find on samsung.com support pages.

Restart computer. Start Kies and let it load. Connect youre phone.

Thats it.

Im from sweden so ive got got swedish lang on my phone so mayby the menus and setting pages got other names than them i suggested above but im sure you will figure it out. Hope i can help someone out there.

Hi i have found the solution to this

when you install kies and plug in the phone the windows mtp driver box comes up you need to choose to install file from a folder by browsing for it, go to the location you installed the kies software then go to usb drivers open that folder and then choose 12.symbian-usb-download-driver click on ok and the driver will install and the galaxy s will connect to the kies software.

This is from me and no one else so thanks would be nice.

Try to un-mount the sd card in the phone before connecting to kies. Worked for me.
Now I need to understand how to operate the calendar...

I used to have a problem that the PC couldn't recognized My AT&T captivate. After adapting a CareAce.net tip(reinstalling the USB driver), it was fixed.

Reinstalling Kies didn't solve my problem. Everything works fine in Windows (7 X86), but Kies won't recognise my phone. Using MassStorage does work alright.
What I did to connect it to Windows was downloading new drivers:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
I think I trie Android-sync, because the only thing I want to do is sync with Outlook. For the other stuff I just use Windows Explorer.

What I did to connect it to Windows was downloading new drivers:

These drivers aren't new, the Samsung Galaxy S drivers are in fact identical to the ones currently shipping with Kies. All dated May 25th, 2010, Version 5.02.02 (Remote NDIS driver) and 5.02.04 (other component drivers).

And in fact the driver packages offered for download there are all older than the one included in the current Kies version, which is V1.3.850.0 (but that doesn't make a difference in this case, as the Galaxy S drivers haven't been updated since May). Also, the distinction between "x86" and "x64" makes no sense, as the driver packages always include both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers.

My advice regarding the driver still is (works on both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows XP/Vista/7):

1. Download the latest Kies installer (V1.5.1.10074_2_6 as of this writing)
2. Install Kies
3. Go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones
4. Use an UNZIP tool of your choice to extract  SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe.cab from the installer executable
5. Extract SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe from the extracted CAB archive
6. Run the driver installer you extracted with the following command-line options:

SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe -quiet -r -p:16

This will install only the 5 drivers you need for your Samsung Galaxy S and omit the ~50 other drivers for various other phones which are also contained in the package.

After a couple of tries with samsung support I got this reply

Quote
Thank you for contacting Samsung Electronics regarding the GT-i9000. I am sorry to hear that you have issues using the handset with a PC and KIES.

KIES is not fully compatible with the handset, as the handset's Operating System is written by Google (as opposed to Bada, Samsung,Symbian and Windows OS which are). I regret that the message from KIESmay have misled you on this point.

As you have mentioned using Mass Storage mode, this is the means of data transfer for media files. Synching the handset for contacts and calendar, etc is done via your Google account.

The only real purpose for KIES is for Home Update when it becomes fully available.

If you require any further information, you mayfind this at www.samsung.com/uk or www.samsungmobile.com.

Hi, i read the thread and i'm wondering if anyone had a similar issue as me.

After installing Keis i run the program and connect my Galaxy S Vibrant from Bell.

The top Right of keis says Connecting the device...

trying to connect more than 1 hour now does not terminate, does not say the decide is not compatible. . it just keeps on trying.  I'm wondering if there is something wrong with my phone.  Can anyone with a Galaxy S connect to Keis?

I faced this problem before, and what i did is:

1. Backup all my data/contact from SD Card to my PC (using Mass Storage connection)
2. Format my SD Card
3. Reset to factory settings.

And it works!

Hi, everyone!

Well, I searched and tried all kind of tips and advices that worked for others. Nothing worked for me. I could not connect the SGS to Kies.

The phone was never recognized by Kies and by Windows (7, x32). I only could connect just to read and write the sd cards. That was the only OK thing. I managed to install some drivers by connecting the phone via USB development mode, but than Kies said I have to reconnect in normal mode, but than again, no phone could be detectet. I set Kies mode on the phone, when connecting via USB. Nothing. It simply nothing happened when I connected SGS via USB with the PC. That was really upseting, because I also reformated the inner card, tried other drivers, and even installed on my small netbook with no succes. I needed the outlook sync, because of my 1000 contacts that were not synced OK via gMail (does anyone has an ideea why the contact categories form Outlook are not synced with the phone via Gmail, even if they are present in the Gmail account?).

Than, I found in a forum something about pressing the Home key before connect to Kies, and saw the video on Youtube (http://samsunggalaxysforum.com/samsung-galaxy-s/119263-problem-samsung-kies.html, post 12).
After that I realized that SGS brings up a message while trying to connect to Kies. It is a message like "Connection to Kies only while on home screen". Could not believe my eyes! In order to function properly, this stupid phone/Android/Samsung/Kies bunch prevents other home screen apps from running, and even to have any apps opened! So, my problem was that I have Launcher Pro on my phone, and no connection could be realized.

Now, I wonder why Kies keep tells me that I do not have a Bluetooth device when i try to connect my phone over the BT? This is a message that I receive on both computers, that have different OSs, BT devices, and BT drivers. Of course everything else works, but BT with Kies, on both computers. And this is for sure not a BT drivers" problem. Anyone any hint?

I think Samsung does not care a ʞɔoɹ for those who already bought a device. But this is a backfire strategy.
So long Samsung... Never again, even if I think the phone is quite good, but very laggy. In 2 years I will by for sure a WinMo device from HTC.

Good luck to all of you!

ok i found the solution the problem is some app is using connection to kies from internal memory same thing when SD card is used by many apps if u connect it in mass storage mode. So we do not know which app is using internal memory all the time or internal sd card, instead of formatting the internal SD just go to

Storage options and unmount internal SD card, i have been going through all of the problems but now it works perfect no need to format and all...

I have windows xp with media player 10 and 1.1 framework from MS.

also make sure WiFi and bluetooth are not all thats what samsung support told but were not able to resolve my issue instead asked me to take the phone to service center to reinstall internal phone drivers...

Samsung should really learn from Nokia Pc suite.

lemme know if it works for you. time to get new official firmware 00094 Big Smile
