Hello,
I am using a Galaxy S GT-I9000M with Samsung Kies 2.00 on Windows 7. I have no problems connecting the device or syncing files.

The software tells me that a firmware update is available (PDA:JL2/PHONE:JL2/CSC:JL2), but when I start the process, the phone gets disconnected automatically. I then get a message saying that the firmware update has been aborted because connection to the phone was lost. The minute I click OK, the phone automatically reconnects and I get the message saying that a firmware update is available.

I looked around the forum here and tried removing the miniSD card and restarting the phone, etc. doesn't seem to help.

Samsung  Kies 1.0 was terrible. This version is better but still seems to be really flaky. I don't have any problems with the phone. I don't know if I should even really trust this upgrade anyway, even if I could get it work.

?

Thanks,
Greg

Don't worry about this.
I uninstalled Kies when after I started getting pop-up after pop-up for Teruten wanting computer access and then, when I finally gave in, service failure issues.
I have to say that, Kies, considering it comes from a large company like Samsung, seems to be some of the worst software I have ever used.
I love the phone though.
Thanks,
Greg

Kies over Itunes anyday.

I don't want to have to use Itunes, at least in this phone there are ways to forgo Kies completely.

Kies is an Option not a necessity.

Peace.

For straight foward updating of the firmware to SGS you need Kies. I am not a techy and would like my phone to connect easily with the software that is been provided with it.

What If I promise to you that it's not rocket science.

All my siblings, cousins, acquaintances are not "techy", but just the fact they know me, and how I make them do things not in their comfort zone, are considered "techie" by "non-techie" people.

So would you like to join the club? it's very simple if you are open to it.

Peace.

I have the same problem too.

I have deleted the long file names from  both memories, reinstalled the usb driver but still it is the same error. I am a windows user and do not know anything about the linux systems. Therefore I have to use kies too but it does not work.

We need more clear explanations to solve the problem..

I also don't use Kies at all.
For upgrade you can use Odin or Heimdall.

I had the same problem as OP did, but i finally managed to update to 2.2.1 today and i'm loving it, the phone is much faster.

The only advice that I can give to you guys that have problems with updating firmware, is to ask your friends to allow you to use their computer to update. I tried everything at home, reinstalled kies a million times, but no success. I went to a friend who bought new computer 2 days ago, same problem occurred. Then i went to another friend and it worked (i also had problems with updating from 2.1 to 2.2 at home, but managed to do at this computer).

So basically updating is a lottery, because all 3 computers i used run win 7 x64 and have similar programs installed.

Good luck, hope this helped Happy

Hi,

Updateing using Kies may be lottery. You are right.
But Odin/Heimdall works 100% properly for me.
I flashed 13 times using Odin without problem.
(Yesterday I flashed 3times).

Careful, these SSD's have a very high rate of wear and tear.

Continued Rough Use will kill it very fast.

I am having the same problem. I have unmounted the external SD, tried diffrent computers, but with no luck. Could someone help on how I can prevent KIES from disconnecting after the firmware upgrade begins? Thanks a ton.

okay...i had the same problem and here's what i did to get it to work. I'm not sure if its a "one off"
I uninstalled kies, did a registry scan using registry mechanic, re installed after a restart. started keys and plugged in my phone, waited a couple of minutes for the program to recognize my phone and stated a firmware upgrade was available. while toggling through the pages and waiting for the lost connection window to appear you can see at the bottom right that the connection has been lost. as soon as i saw that i unplugged my phone and immediately plugged it back in. the lost connection screen did not re appear. the "connecting" at the top left did not either but the phone continued through the upgrade with no problems. again...not sure its a one off but at least it worked for me...hopefully you folks too. Cheers!
