Suddenly, I have no Wi-Fi capability on the Galaxy GT-I9000.  Angry

When I turn-on Wi-Fi from the Wi-Fi settings page the mobile starts scanning for networks but after about ten seconds stops and displays the message at the bottom of the page: "Unable to scan networks" and then turns-off Wi-Fi. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
Firmware version is 2.2, build is FROYO.BUJP7. The last thing I recall doing, before the fault occurred, was using the BTFON applet to login to a BTOPENZONE hotspot, which it did successfully. I was also able to turn-off Wi-Fi to closedown the connection afterwards. Just possibly it could be a rouge software issue.

Any constructive comments greatly appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem. I thought it was related to the latest apps that I installed but after removing them all the problem still persists.

Have you done a battery pull? or a soft reset? Neither affects your data but can clear annoyances.

Hello Casz
Thank you for your response. Yes I had already tried a battery pull and a soft reset. I haven't tried a Factory data reset, I did think about doing one and then reinstalling version 2.2, build FROYO.BUJP7 but Samsung Kies will not allow me to reinstall firmware unless the version you are installing is later than the one already installed on the mobile.
Here's a few more bits of information:
1) The Wi-Fi symbol, normally displayed at the top of the screen, never appears when Wi-Fi is "switched-on", implying that it isn't actually switching on.
2) Bluetooth works fine, possibly implying that the radio section is still functioning; often the same module handles both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth transmissions.
3) The Wi-Fi MAC address is shown as "Unavailable" in Settings -> About phone -> Status, this might be normal, however, as the Bluetooth address is also shown as "unavailable" until a Bluetooth pairing is actually made.
4) Using *#1234# to check firmware versions I have:
PDA: BUJP7 2.2
Phone: BUJP5 2.1 Vodafone Supplier firmware
CSC: GVODJP7  version not known.
Anyone know if this is a compatible ROM set i.e. can 2.1 and 2.2 be mixed?
Anymore suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello ravens-guide,

Well it's fixed! I was about to ship the mobile back to Samsung for test and repair and needed to apply a full Factory data reset to remove all my private info. When the mobile rebooted, Wi-Fi functionality was back. If you haven't fixed your problem yet, backup your personal data and give this big-red-button approach a try, it just might work for you too. I have the BTFON app in my sights as the likely culprit, but I don't want to reinstall it just to prove a point.
Good Luck.

Factory resets will resolve almost anything  Big Grin If you send your phone in they will be wiping data in any case. Glad it worked out.
