My Galaxy S screen turns off randomly (say, once in a week). But I found that the phone is functional, but only the display is off. The only way I can get the display on is by removing and putting the battery again. Please help me sort out the issue.

Thanks.

It is most likely a software issue, as such I recommend you do a soft reset to rule it out and report back if the issue persists.

Peace.

since this is the most recent post i have seen, I have the same issue. I am on phone number 3. I do not pretend to be a computer genius and I dont want to hack my phone to make sure it works. I have done the factory resets, it ate my SD card, and I have updated software on all 3 of them and I still have the same issue. From what I read it isnt a battery issue, Can someone advise if Samsung has acknowledged their phone is a POS? I have had Samsung phones forever and this is my first smart phone model and I hate it. It looks awesome but shuts off when ever I look at it wrong. TMOB does not have competent enough IT people to support these and just keeps sending me new phones and charging me for shipping. All I want is a phone that stays on that I can use the web and not miss calls. Is that too much to ask? If you do reply, can you put it in laymans terms?

its called SLEEP OF DEATH and its quite common in android phones

so do this thing

go to Setting->Wirelss and Network->Wi-Fi setting->Advanced (edit button) -> Wi-Fi sleep policy -> Choose "Never"

and install ANDROID BOOSTER and WIFI MANAGER from android market

hope this solves ur problem
let me know if this helps

I follow mickc instructions and, until now, all seems OK (no more SLEEP OF DEATH for my Galaxy S).
Thanks mickc!

My "Wi-Fi sleep policy" was already "Never"... the "Sleep of Death" still goes on... no changes...   Sad  What else can I do? Does Samsung give any solution for that?
Thanks.

Nada mudou... Ainda "morrendo"... O que mais posso fazer???
Inclusive dei um reboot para voltar às configurações de fábrica...

Nothing changed... Still with "Sleep Of Death"... What else can I do???
I rebooted it to get the original configuration...

 HUH?    Undecided
