I like many others, had the annoying glitch where my back button would go unresponsive and if I pressed the home key it would just take a screen shot.  I love Android but I was starting to wish I had gone with iPhone after this issue.   I googled until my eyes were on fire and found this fix.

Here's the simple fix.  Dial this into your phone *#*#2663#*#*
Then select the bottom option to updated the touch firmware.

I have a GT-1900M and it is working brilliantly now.  I love it.

It's seems bizarre that dealers don't even seem to know about this and are taking back phones and replacing them left right and center.

Hope this works for everybody.

Word of caution people.  Make sure you have model GT-1900M and if you attempt this fix, it is at your own risk.

I heard of a model GT-1900T that this disabled the touch keys on.

Did anyone else experience this problem only after the firmware update to 2.2?
in my case, about 3/4 weeks later. I was a late updater after reading about all the bricked phones.
I will try the fix and hope it works. To this point i have quite liked my Galaxy S but the back button and lag issue is truly annoying and disappointing.

I have the exact same issue with my GT-S5660 (Galaxy Gio) and Android Gingerbread (v2.3.3). I have tried the mentioned service code once, but it didn't do me any good. I now tried it once more. Will hope for no more freezes. Aawergh. Can't help to wonder if this is really a software issue, and not something gone wrong with the touch screen. My three-year-old have been throwing my phone around the floor a couple of times. However, there's not visible(!) damage to the touch display, which it should(?) be.

Any luck, guys? Kiss

thanks for this i have just replaced my home button after it went for a swim (not a simple job as you have to separate the screen from the back almost impossible without breaking the screen)

my phone and the new home button is working  but the back and menu button would not work.

i did the touch update and hey presto there working thanks alot.
