Hi,

well, where do I start? I got my SGS three weeks ago and bought a 16GB sd-card. Then I copied all the content from my old phone to this new card and put it into my SGS. It found all data on it. Then I installed 'multi-picture live wallpaper' and used a directory with pictures on that sd. That worked for a day or two. Then the directory with the pictures disappeared and I found the pictures in LOST.DIR. I renamed them and tried a different directory. It was the same trouble, again. I decided to copy all content of the sd on my computer and asked the SGS to format the sd-card. It worked and then I copied the pictures using KIES to my phone. After reconfiguring 'multi-picture live wallpaper' to the camera directory it worked fine. Last night I switched my phone off and when I switched it back on the sd-card was marked as unusable...

Now my question:
- is it in general a problem to use the external sd-card with apps that want to access the card at startup?

No, at least it isn't supposed to be.

Personally when I use App2SD my phone comes to a crawl.

But you need to understand that App2SD actually just Moves the App files from ROM Drive to Main Drive, not your Ext Card.

Can you tell me what you see when you type *#1234# in Dialer and list your build as well,

Settings -> About -> Build.

Peace.

Can you recreate the problem if you put the files in the Main Drive?

You have Froyo, but not the latest one. Maybe it's fixed in the newer Firmwares.

Peace.

Hello IronSingh,
I have put the fotos on the internal sd-card and all the problems are gone.
I will check for the latest firmware.
Thanks,
Svenchen

Ok Glad it fixed the problem, I know you would rather have them on the External Card, let me know if there are any developments after a Firmware update.

Peace.

HI

I too am having problems with external SD card.  I bought my phone a couple of weeks ago along with a 16GB card.  I moved a load of music onto the card using Saliing and all seemed fined except that the next day I got the message from the phone that the SD card had problems; so I ordered a replacement SD card.  meanwhile I used the old and it seemed to be retaining the music on it.  When the new one arrived I sent the old one back (as requested) and loded the new one up with the music.  Then yesterday I got the message again that the card was corrupt.  Unfortunately this meant that I had no music for a 4 hour car journey; I wasn't happy!  I have since re-formatted the card and re-loaded it with music.  I am waiting to see if the phone has problems with it in the next few days.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?  Is there a fix?  Or, is my phone faulty?

Hi there

I'm also experiencing similar problems. I have received a 8GB micro SD card with my phone. Before i started to use the card i formatted it, and then only transferred some music and pics to it. It was going fine for about two days or so, then i also had a LOST.DIR file popped up with some weird signs in there but it contained data, and my music and pics was gone. I have repeated these steps and formatted again and sometimes there is a LOST.DIR file with no files in it, and all my other stuff is just gone... My stuff don't last for longer than 3 days on my external card and then they are lost, even my pictures i took with the phone.

Once it said that the card is damaged also, but worked ok after unmounting it and mounting it again. Weird thing is that the same card works fine in my other phones..... it showed LOST.DIR and my picture folder had weird signs in it, took the card out and put it in my other phone (xperia X1), and it picked up my pics and music etc etc...

My phone details :

Hi all,

I've had my Galaxy S for about a month now, and I'm beginning to understand how to use it. It's very different from the Windows Mobile 6.5 HTC Touch Pro 2, I owned before I switched to Android.
I like Android because it's very fast en easy to use (most of the time), but there's one thing I haven't been able to figure out yet, and that is how to install third party software on my Galaxy.

I've used the navigation program Sygic Mobile Maps 10 on my HTC, and it always worked very well. Mobile Maps is also compatible with Symbian and Android. It comes on a microSD-card and you have to install it on your smartphone from that location.
So that's how I installed it on my Galaxy S and for a couple of days it worked fine.
But when I wanted to open Mobile Maps on the third or fourth day after installation I got a message that the system files couldn't be found. So I checked my external SD and to my surprise I found two folders (.android_secure and LOST.DIR) and all the Sygic program files had dissapeared. (I had to do this with my Galaxy in the external drive mode on my PC - on my phone's file manager the SD card seemed empty, although it showed that 2GB on the card was in use).
The .android_secure folder was empty, and the LOST.DIR folder contained 439 numbered files (without extensions). The size of this folder was 2GB, just like the memory-space the Sygic files needed before they dissapeared.
Could someone please tell me what these two folders are for and why Android puts them on the external SD Card?

I have also tried to run this application from the internal SD card as well, by copying all files to it and install it from there, but that didn't work at all. I couldn't run the program.
It also takes up 2GB (with the maps of Europe and all) so it uses almost half of the available 5GB of the internal external card, which I'm not too happy about.

Who can set me on the right track solving this problem?

Thanks,
Michael

Basically, I downloaded skype then I uninstalled it because the sound wasn't working properly and then when I went to download it again when it said installing skype it then said ''Error: Insufficient storage available.'' What's that and  what is the solution???
-After that I went to settings to see my storage and on External Sd Card it says unavailable. But when I want to move a game to my External Sd Card it says '' Not Enough Memory.''
