I'm having an issue with my galaxy S. I charge the battery, it is 100% full, but when I start using it (question of minutes), mainly apps or camera, it suddenly shuts off as there was no more battery. I try to turn it on again, it gives me the low battery warning and shuts off again. I leave the phone off (not charging)  for a while (1 hour), then when I turn it on, the battery shows full again... But if I use it, the issues start all over again... I know that changing the battery will not solve the issue! Need some help!

I'm having the exact same issue, so I hope reporting my issues and observations may help come up with a solution.

Seems like it only happens when I'm actively using the touch screen.  Talking on the phone, watching videos, etc, doesn't cause the problem.  But texting, emailing, make it crash.  When I turn it back on, battery is supposedly low.  I plug it into the charger, and it shows up with the previous charge levels.

Something's wonky.  Galaxy S Fascinate 4G with FW 2.3.4.  Any help would be appreciated.

This has been happening to me for quite a while I went into the store and they stated it was the battery, that a cell or something had busted inside which showed a visible hump in the battery.  I purchased a new one and it worked fine for a while until recently it started up again.  Now there is not one charger in my home that works with out me pushing it in to work and I am still having the same charger problem when it does charge.  It will say 100% I use it for about 10 to 15 minutes and it will just cut off no warning.  I will turn it back on and it says low battery and cut off, I can then wait about an hour or sometimes I can just take the battery out then put it back in and it will be back at 100% or 97%.  I don't know what is going on with this phone I think the ports are bad since this is the second time I could not charge the phone (I've already gotten a new shell with the insurance) and I think the batteries are bad on these models.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am having the exact problem, it started about a week ago. The battery seems to be draining much faster until about 70% then the phone shuts down, I start it up again and it shows 5-8% then shuts down within seconds.
I have a i9001 and I have it for over a year.

I searched the internet and tried 2 apps so far, Battery Spy (used it to calibrate the battery); I aslo used Battery Calibrator which says it deletes a battery related file (needs root - which I just did) but I got the same result, except the battery seems to be draining a little bit slower.

I am considering to try to change the standard ROM with a JB, hoping it would fix the problem... Do you guys have custom ROMs?
Thanks in advance for any recommendation

regards,
D.

I ended up rooting the phone, installed custom rom etc. but still didn't help with the battery problem so I bought a new one...

Yes, this describes my exact symptoms too, but I actually purchased a second Captivate (refurb) from Rogers thinking I had just one dud, and low and behold, the same consistant sudden power shutting off happens with the new phone! This phone is a piece of crap and you are going to find Rogers (probably ATT too) and Samsung are all stalling and denying the problem even exists, and in my case both Rogers and Samsung have NO intention of taking on any responsibility for the manufacturers defective Samsung Galaxy S Captivate models of phone. My suggestion is for all of you to go to an HTC phone, or any other brand, and drop your carrier and Samsung as soon as you can --  banishing them both forever from your tech. Sorry,  but I've tried every posted solution on-line and spoking to every customer service idiot at Samsung and Rogers nothing work and no help will be offered by these two "good corporate citizens" (LOL!). This problem is most likely an unfixable hardware (or perhaps firmware) issue that only Samsung would be able to address with proper recalls but, of course, would NEVER dream of doing... a really big two thumbs down to Samsung and Rogers!!

Without rooting, there is an app you can get that calibrates the battery. The are many to choose from but I found the best one to be Battery Calibration by Nèma.

It comes with instructions and is worth a go.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS take advantage of having Google on your phone! Save all contacts to GMail and they never get lost, wiped, replaced etc.

Titanium Backup for apps and data. SMS Backup & Restore for messages.
