Hello people. As you may know, when you want to take a screenshot in the Galaxy S Vibrant (Android 2.2) you have to press the back and home button simultaneously.
The problem with my phone is that sometimes when I touch the back button it turns off and gets into screenshot mode, I mean it waits for me to press the home button to take a screenshot, and sometimes the 3 buttons stop working because of this issue.

TL;DR: Back button problem, stops working when touched and gets into screenshot mode.

Is there any fix for this? Anyone could help?

Thanks in advance.

What have you tried? Battery pull, soft reset, did you do a factory reset after your upgrade to 2.2?

So far I've tried a soft reset and battery pull. I did not do a factory reset because when I bought the phone from Bell it came with 2.2

I can see why you didn't do the factory reset but it may be time. I remeber reading another thread with the same issue. Did they ever resolve it?

Ok so I went to Bell, they changed my phone AGAIN. Yes, this is actually the 4th Vibrant I get from them in less than 2 weeks. The first one just had a sudden death, one night I plugged it in for charging the next morning the phone died. The second one had this issue as well (back button) the funny thing is that when they gave me this phone, it was already screwed and I was able to show them before leaving the store, therefore they gave me another one (third one) which I had for a couple of days before the back button went crazy. So Today I went there again, the guy told me that probably I was causing the problem (yeah I raged!) but eventually they gave me another one. Let's just hope this one works flawlessly (fingers crossed)

Thank you for your help anyways, hopefully I won't be posting this issue again

Which Froyo version did it come with? It's strange how some phones are great and some people go through so many. That's why when mine went for repair I really wanted it back rather than replaced.

All of them came with 2.2

Hopefully this is the one! Smile anyway if something happens next time I'll send it to repair.

I had the same problem and I googled until my fingers bled and I found the solution.

Bring up your phone dialer and dial this in   *#*#2663#*#*

Update the touch key firmware at the bottom.  This fixed it for me and I'm in love with my android all over again.

I noticed you have the 1900m, so hopefully it still works for you.   It's a shame that they don't update this stuff at the time of purchase.   It only takes a few seconds.

Word of caution people.  Make sure you have model GT-1900M and if you attempt this fix, it is at your own risk.

I heard of a model GT-1900T that this disabled the touch keys on.

I have the same problem. It started about a month ago.

I read a few posts and tried all the solutions but to no avail. Went to the Bell store and they told me they would have to send it out for repair and it could take up to 5 weeks and that they to not give out loners.

No way was I going to wait that long without my phone so I did some more digging on the internet and found the, *#*#2663#*#* fix.

I did it last night and so far it seems to be working. I have the 1900m version with all the updates installed. The phone is only about 5 months old and is lightly used!

I will keep you posted if this is a true fix for the phone.

Cheers,

X

Ok, it's been a week now and I haven't had any issues with the back button since I did the upgrade.

So, I'm assuming it works! If there are any issues in the future, I will post them to you!

Cheers.

I confirm this issue. I have a GT-S5660 (Galaxy Gio) and I noticed this for the first time after I upgraded from Froyo to Gingerbread. However, I had only had my phone for a couple of days when I did the update, so it may or may not also have been an issue with Froyo. I have been worried that I have somehow wrecked my touchscreen so that the "back button freeze" is psychical. Fortunately; i found this thread, confirming that this is a very known issue, affecting different users with different phones. It can't be that many broken touchscreens, now could it? Wink Wink
