I just tried doing a update for my samsung galaxy s on Orange.

It was all going ok, till my Kies froze. My phone was saying updating don't turn off target.

So i restarted my laptop and then kies, Kies didn't say there was a problem with the update but now my phone is only showing an image of a phone with a ! in a yellow triangle linked to a computer.

Ive tried a hard reset (power off, press down volume button, power on) but nothing, tried taking battery out, but still nothing, when i power it on it still has the same image.

any ideas?

Since your device was disconnected during the update, that means your update/system/firmware is not complete and surely it will not boot-up. No point trying Hard/Factory reset too.

Only two things you can do.

One: Bring your device to a Samsung Service Center (or where you bought it) and let them fix it.

Two: Flash a firmware yourself by following This Guide.

Nice one dude. Beat me to it! That's Heimdell though, do you have one for Odin or is Heimdell you preferred one?

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS take advantage of having Google on your phone! Save all contacts to GMail and they never get lost, wiped, replaced etc.

Titanium Backup for apps and data. SMS Backup & Restore for messages.
