I had exact same problem.. Tried multiple machines, tried on winxp, windows vista and windows 7 with same problem. I had 2.2 with root and voodoo lag fix. I had removed the lagfix before i was trying the upgrade with same results.

Finally i did a factory reset of the phone - Settings - privacy - Reset and Kies was able to upgrade the firmware without any further issues  Laugh

I've managed to upgrade to Gingerbread. What I did was update my Windows and tried the installation/update again and it worked. Now my galaxy S is running faster than ever.

Of course as I installed some more apps, it tends to lag a little. But it's not as bad as while I was using Froyo. My phone was rooted using SuperOne Click but after the update it seems my superuser icon is gone. Can it be rooted again?

And how to I ensure my SGS runs without the lag?

Ya, I had tried to connect to different machine but even worst that the kies cannot detect any firmware upgrade.
What I had tried again on the 1st PC is that
1. Uninstall the kies and reinstalled.
2. Factory data reset. Privacy->factory data reset
3. Connect the phone and run Kies
4. When Kies started, it detect & prompt me the new version of firmware for upgrade
5. I follow the upgrade instructions and it start download the firmware with no error.
6. After complete download & going to start install the component, It prompt the msg "Firmware Update has stopped working"...and show the problem signature like mentioned by khooky.

Is there any way to solve?
Thanks in advance

Read this.

You may benefit from a soft Reset as well.

Hi IronSingh/Khooyk

Finally I've managed to upgrade to 2.3. What I did was same as Khooyk which update the windows and reinstall the kies, reset the phone and start over again and finally it was done successfully... If not I may take your advise to consider Flashing..

Thanks guys..Sticking out tongue
