Hello all.

Good news!!

Just got my phone back from o2 today and camera is working perfect! There's no fault/error log unfortunatley but it's all working and I'm happy with those results!

Having said that... Just checking through the "About Phone" section and found this:

Firmware version:  2.2.1
Baseband version: I9000XXJPY
Kernel version:      2.6.32.9
                          root@SEP-51#1
Build number:        FROYO.XXJPY

I'm on FROYO!!! But what is this KERNEL? New to me... Omnian bro, what do you make of this? I was on 2.3.4 (unofficial) but flashed it back to 2.3.1 or something to defer any occurences of "illegal" flashing...

Titanium Backup for apps and data. SMS Backup & Restore for messages.

would it be worth trying a custom rom like darkys custom rom? or would the camera firmware files just be the same do you think.

Hi dex,

If you don't mind custom ROMs, yes, you can try DarkyROM v10.1. It is the only custom ROM that I know had made some changes in the Camera software. Hopefully it'll fix your camera issue. Follow the guide there on how to install.

After that, if your Back Camera is working, you will have problem with the Front Camera. Just install the JCH Stock Camera from Here (scroll down to Stock JVH Camera Apps and Libs:).

Let me know.

Grad that you have your phone back in working condition.

Froyo is good.

Kernel is always there, maybe you didn't notice previously. It is the (Original Samsung) Kernel version that you're having now.  Big Smile

A Kernel is the central component of most operating systems. Its responsibilities include managing the system’s resources (the communication between hardware and software components) and can provide the lowest-level abstraction layer for resources (especially memory, processors, and I/O devices)

If you're wondering the word "root" in there, don't worry, it doesn't mean the "root" that we're talking about here. Your device is not rooted unless there's a Superuser Icon in your App Drawer.

Well, it looks like I'm all sorted, thanks for all your help Omnian. Just one last thing, what Firmware are you running? I was running 2.3.4 JVP then JVQ and then back to 2.3.something before sending it away?

Hi omnian, sorry been a bit busy the last couple of days.

nope, problem is still ongoing.

i performed a factory reset, then flash to darky's rom 10.2 extreme edtion. the camera still didnt work.

i then reflashed back to stock gingerbread and still no joy.

back on darky's rom again as it's very nice.

i think im fighting a losing battle here with this camera issue Sad

thanks again for all your help

Hey dextaville. You might just have to the same as I did and just send it away for repair. I had totally forgot how nice this camra is! It had been so long! It was well worth not having it for 6 days, can't believe how much I missed out!

Yes, although it is used, try bringing it to a Samsung Service Center. Not necessary it is chargeable. Tell them to let you know the price first (if it is chargeable) for you to consider.

But, flash back to its original firmware first.

If you have not send it to the Service Center nor flashed it back to its original firmware, maybe you'd like one last try?
Only if you wanted to.

You have to be rooted, download This SGS II Camera, extract (Camera.apk & CameraFirmware.apk) and replace the original one in /System/App, using a File/Root Explorer.
Restart.

These are ported from the i9100 for i9000.

Before you get carried away...

What caused this issue?
What have you tried?
What firmware were you on?

And most importantly,
WHAT DID YOU DO?
