Hey Omnian. Sadly, that's what I did and unfortunately still no camera.

So that leaves one thing: rooting. Having read through the link you supplied, I don't feel comfortable doing it and I don't really see the full benefits other than the possibility of a working camera.

Would you suggest talking to Samsung? A lot of guys on here don't like them but I think Rooting should be the last resort and being the only thing left, Samsung can't hurt?

What do you reckon?

Yes, if you're not comfortable with rooting your device, bring it to Samsung.

Over here Samsung service people are very helpful. I like them.

Just don't tell them what you've done. Tell them the camera just "suddenly" not working.

At the same time, ask them to update your firmware.

Let us know how it goes.

Hey Omnian. Been a while...

I'm struggling to find a Samsung Shop in my area! There isn't a dedicated shop anywhere in or near Hampshire! Where are you situated? All the Samsung "repair" centres are within other shops, is that what you're referring to?

Hi omniam, sorry to butt in on an old thread but I am new to the Galaxy S and am experiencing similar problems with my camera. open the camera app and all i get is a black screen (does not give the camera failed error). i am running gingerbread 2.3.4 and am rooted.

ive tried everything already suggested in this thread.

in one of your posts in this thread you advised ahktar his phone would need to be rooted before trying further methods. can you enlighten me please in regards to these further methods?

Oh...So Sorry Akhtar. Totally missed this thread. Did not receive any notification for a reply...again.  Angry

I'm in Indonesia.

If those "repair" centers can do firmware upgrades, then yes, you can go there. Firmware upgrades are Free.

Actually, there's no harm rooting your device. It just let's you have access to you device's system files.

Anyway, I'm also not sure the method for rooted device will work for your camera problem.

Hi dextaville,

NP and this thread is not old. I just missed the notification of a reply. The case is still not solved.

What did you do before the problem occurred?

For bro Akhtar's case, was he'd apply the "PHONE TO CAM FW WRITE" in the system menu.

Just to confirm, can you check whether there's anything blocking the camera?

If you want to try, download This .zip file and extract it.

There are 4 files inside:
CE147F00.bin
CE147F01.bin
CE147F02.bin
CE147F03.bin

Copy them into your device's /system/firmware/ folder, replacing those that are there.

Restart your device.

From your default dialpad, key in *#34971539# and select "PHONE TO CAM FW WRITE".

Restart your device and start your camera.

Please note that I am not sure whether it will work, those 4 files was extracted from my GT-i9000.

And if it does work for you, please post a confirmation, hopefully this can provide some help to bro Akhtar too.

Thanks.

Hey Omnian. Just to update, I took my phone back to my local o2 store and they've sent it to one on their approved repair shops. I'm now just waiting to hear back from them.

It may interest you to know that I did download those .bin files but when I compared them, there were prettty much the same. I didn't however install them because as you know, the phone needs to be rooted and I was trying to avoid that.

Thanks for replying and to be honest, I didn't get any notifications either, I was just browsing and noticed a new post.

Dextaville, you can try all the methods but I think Ideally, the phone needs to be rooted and I'm not too comfortable doing that so I decided against and as Omnian said, it may not work.

mr.kany, is could be a HARDWARE issue that some people on here have had problems with. If you have tried everything available on this site, try samsunggalaxysforum.com or xda-developers.com. They will also have more info and resouces.

But like I say, it could be a hardware problem which is why I've sent mine away. I tried everything bar rooting and changing root files and you would know that if you did read this thread.

It may be best to send it away for 2 reasons: they're pros and know what they're doing and you'll get it back with the latest firmware and (possibly) software.

Hope this helps!

Hey mr.kany.

Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for the phone to come back. I was told it would take 7 - 10 days and it was handed in on wednesday.

I was going to update as soon as I got it back but it hasn't been sent to a Samsung repair centre but to an o2 repair centre via the shop that supplied me the phone.

Now it's just a waiting game...
