hi omnian,

i tried what you suggested but sadly it did not work  Sad

i bought the phone second hand and it had this error. when i did a factory reset and did the "phone to cam fw write" it actually fixed it. then since upgrading from eclair to gingerbread via kies it has stopped working again. so i dont think it is a hardware issue, but a software/firmware issue.

also there is nothing blocking the camera itself.

would another factory reset put everything back to eclair? or would gingerbread remain? i havent done a factory reset since the first one.

cheers

@dextaville,

No, whatever reset will not bring back Eclair.

You did the "phone to cam fw write" again, after upgraded to Gingerbread?

People, please do not apply the "phone to cam fw write". It is not for consumer to use, that's why the menu is hidden.

Are you on Official Gingerbread or are you using a custom ROM e.g Darky's 10.1?

@mr.kany

What did you do before the camera fail?

Yes, Samaung should be able to fix it. If they can't, maybe they'll replace you with a new set, if you're still under warranty.

Where did you get that?

Why would you want to remove it?

Just try the latest files (from the post above yours) by following the instruction posted on "Reply # 19". See if the Camera works again.

I can't say which is the best (I don't use everything), but the most popular is Titanium Backup.

hi omnian,

those files didnt work either.

to clarify, the camera wasnt working when i got the phone. a suggestion on another forum was to do the "phone to cam fw write", which resolved the issue and i was able to use the camera. then i upgraded to official gingerbread vis kies and found the camera no longer worked (hence the belief that it is a firmware issue rather than hardware).

i ran the "fw write" again but this did not resolve.

after trying your second set of files, i downloaded a copy of eclair from samfirmware.com and extracted the firmware from it, then tried copying to my phone, but again, this has not worked.

i must admit i am at a bit of a loss now, and a samsung repair centre is no good as i got the phone second hand, therefore no warranty on it.

short of trying the firmware from every flavour of android on samfirmware.com (which would take quite a while) i may have to resort to the fact that this is an unfixable issue (although considering the large number of people experiencing it i would have expected samsung to have released some kind of fix by now, unless they want people to upgrade to the galaxy s 2).

thanks for all your help and if you have any further ideas/suggestions ill be happy to try them.

dex.

Emmm.....

Can you try This.

Same process:

1 ) Extract them.

2 ) Overwrite them into your device's /system/firmware/ folder.

3 ) Reboot your device.

4 ) From your dialpad, key in *#34971539#.

5 ) Select "PHONE TO CAM FW WRITE".

6 ) Reboot your device.

nope, that hasnt worked either im afraid.

would it be worth trying a custom rom like darkys custom rom? or would the camera firmware files just be the same do you think.

thanks again
