Hi all. I'm new to android but I do like to think I'm a bit techy so I've been doing some research and what not. After basic level upgrading (through Kies), I ended up with 2.3.3.

It all worked fine and I was happy with it. The only thing that was bugging me from day one was the camera. Now I know roughly how well a 5 MP camera works and that part was working fine BUT the actual camera software seemed to lag and didn't work too well with all the functions available. So, I did some research and found a few things and tryed them. Nothing made a difference until I did the "PHONE TO CAM FW WRITE", that's whereb it all went wrong!

The camera has now completely stopped working! The program loads but all I get is a black screen. Same with the video camera although the front camera still works.

After a lot more research, I decided to go back to 2.2.1 (original firmware) using Odin: no good. Then using Odin again, I upgraded to 2.3.4: still no good.

I'm now stuck in a constant loop of website links to each other across 2 versions of samsunggalaxysforum, samfirmware and xda-developers.

I am completely lost and need direction! There's plenty of info online but nothing seems to be working! Can anyone help me? I need a checklist or something of every way or method available to fix this! I don't want to talk to Samsung as a lot of people are saying they're not very good but it's looking like I will have to soon!

Many thanks in advance!

How did you do the "PHONE TO CAM FW WRITE"? Can it be reverted?

Have you tried Factory Reset?

Just to check, is there anything blocking the (back) camera?

When you flash (with odin), how many files you have for 2.2.1 and 2.3.4?

What do you mean by ".....stuck in a constant loop of website links to each other across 2 versions of......."?

Hello Omnian. Thanks for the reply.

The "PHONE TO CAM FW WRITE" was done in a couple different methods but both lead to the same thing. 2 methods were: 1) type in a secret code in the phone keypad mand get a hidden menu. From there you just select the phone to cam write. 2) Install a different launcher and create an activity to access the same hidden menu. I'm using LauncherPro. As for reverting, I've tried but checking the firmware on the camera and on the phone (somehow), they are both the same. Both read SESBDI07 and 05.15. Not sure what these mean?

As for FACTORY RESET, I've tried that hundreds of times!! Well maybe not hundreds but I've tried hard and soft resetting more than a few times.

As far as I'm aware, there doesn't seem to be any obsructions in the camera. Is there a way to take it out without damage?

Both time flashing with Odin, I had 4 files. Can't remember the exact numbers for 2.2.1 but the codes for 2.3.4 are:
PIT 512
MODEM XXJVP
CSC OXAJVP
CODE XXJVP
I do have more details for these if needed.

Every website I go to refers to another through links. Initially I would start and samsunggalaxalysforums.com or samsunggalaxysforum.com, they would lead forumxpa-developers.com which would lead to samfirmware.com. And samfirmware was completely useless even after signing up!

Sorry for the essay but I hope this clarifies things.

Can you try entering this code: *2767*226372# into your dialpad.

Backup your photos, it'll delete all your photos.

Hello again Omnian. Tryed this code before. It doesn't automatically load anything so I pressed call. After attempting to read USSD CODE, it stops and an error message reads "Connection proble or invalid MMI code". Does that mean anything to you?

Thanks

Hello Omnian. I'm really appreciating the help.

The phones model code is GT I9000. Do you need anything more specific as I'll happily supply it.

Many thanks.

No problem, just doing my best to help.

I still don't know how you'd apply the "PHONE TO CAM FW WRITE", thus I have no idea of what it does.

Anyway, if you like to try, I'd extracted the stock camera from my JVH. But I have not tried this method before, so do it at your own risk.

1 ) Download this "Update.zip" and put it into the root of your device's internal SD Card. Do not extract it. You can see the content, but don't unzip it.

2 ) Switch off your device and start it into Recovery mode.

3 ) Select Apply/Install update from SD Card.

4 ) Reboot your device and check whether it work.

Again, not to scare you, but do this at your own risk and only if you're willing to try it.

I will be here waiting for your result.  Wink Wink

Hello again Omnian.

Followed your instructions exactly but alas, still no go.

In the recovery mode, it atempts to install but then stops, reads SIGNATURE VERIFICATION FAILED and returns to the original recovery menu.

I think maybe I'll have to unzip it and use the specific file(s)?

Thanks.
Akhtar.

You can try, but I'm not sure whether it can be done.

Are you rooted?

I'm not sure but I doubt it. I used Odin to get 2.3.4, is that flasing or rooting? I'm still unsure as to what rooting is?

That is just Flashing.

TO know more about root, please read This.

To root Gingerbread, please check This Thread.

For the moment, can you try installing This. Install as normal .apk.

If that doesn't work, you'll have to root your device before we try another method.

Hey Omnian. Thanks for trying but still no go.

Just so I'm not being a complete douche, can you just confirm the method of installing an .apk file.

Thanks.
Akhtar.

Copy it into your device, open "My files", navigate to the folder where you'd placed the .apk and tap on it. If installed successfully, it'll show install complete (or something like that).

Restart your device and try the camera.
