Hi all
Hope you can help me on this, I have a samsung galaxy s(GT-i9000) with firmvare version 2.3.3 and here is my problem:
Yesterday when i turned on my phone suddenly all my contacts was gone (I hadn't changed anything for weeks on the phone so i am a bit lost why this happened). The first thing i checked was offcause whether the setting was set to show all contacts (both phone contact, gmail contact and facebook contact) and it was. Then i decided to run restore the contact using lookout but this only returned a few contacts. I am always saving the contacts on gmail but i have newer actually looked through a web browser if the contacts was on my gmail account, all I can see now is that they are not showed under contacts there now (is there a special place where you see your android contacts?)
The weird thing is that when I use the add freind function from facebook I can only see friends that I hadn't imported earlier so even though they are gone on my phone i still can import them again.

If anybody now how to help on this it would definitly save my day.

Hello kaspermp. Welcome to the forum.

First of all, you should log into your GMail account on a computer and see if the contacts are still there.
As a good practice, I suggest saving all your contacts to GoogleMail/GMail so should anything go wrong, you can easily restore them.

Secondly, check that accounts & sync settings are correct:
SETTINGS->ACCOUNTS & SYNC

There are two check boxes at the top, the first one BACKGROUND DATA is optional (upto you), I have it checked. The second one is the important one. It makes sure your accounts regularly sync.

Then you'll have a section titled MANAGE ACCOUNTS. If the accounts listed are active, the will have a green circle with 2 rotary arrows. If they're inactive, grey circle with faint circular arrows.

If you do have grey circles, open the account and GoogleMail for example, has 3 check boxes: make sure they're ticked or atleast SYNC CONTACTS is ticked.

Try that and see how it goes.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS take advantage of having Google on your phone! Save all contacts to GMail and they never get lost, wiped, replaced etc.

Titanium Backup for apps and data. SMS Backup & Restore for messages.

If you have any questions, please do a search before posting a new thread and if you can't find anything, then try to put the new thread into the correct forum.

Hi Akhtar,
Thank for replying so fast.
I have checked gmail and the conatcts are not there so it seems that my phone newer saved them on gmail (i newer checked gmail before all the contacts was gone)
Both background data and regularly sync are checked and both facebook and gmail, however then i checked into my gmail account the sync contacy was of so i guess that is why my contact wasn't saved on gmail. Is there anything i can do to get the contacts back ot atleast get my facebook contacts back.

In the area:
SETTINGS->ACCOUNTS & SYNC
You should have an account labed Facebook. If that's complete, it should download your Facbook contacts onto your phone. You may also want to check in:
CONTACTS->(bottom left button for) SETTINGS->MORE->DISPLAY OPTIONS
Make sure all the settings in there are correct.

With regards to getting your contacts back, did you ever "Export to SD Card"? Thats a function within the phonebook that saves all your contacts as a vCard. The location of this vCard is unknown to me though but if you do have one, you can restore contacts via "Import from SD Card". These again found in:
CONTACTS->(bottom left button for) SETTINGS->IMPORT/EXPORT

You may have to start again. It's not difficult (depending on how many numbers you have), it's happened to me too. I did things a little different though... I was a noob excited about flashing/upgrading and didn't do ANY backing up. Lost everything! Contacts, apps, messages etc.

So from then on, GoogleMail for contacts, Titanium Backup Pro for Apps and not too worried about text messages and emails but there are apps available on the Market to backup texts etc.

Sorry for not resolving this issue but I suppose when you've run out of options, you just have to go back to square one.

If you are happy, mark this thread "RESOLVED"

Hi,
Thanks all those settings is ok on my phone, guess you are right that I have to start over, still weird with the facebook contacts though, when i go to
CONTACTS->(bottom left button for) add friends(could be diffrent wording as my phone is in danish)->Facebook
I can only choose the contacts that wasn't on my phone before I lost all the contacts so I can't get all the important ones back.

I use google to sync my contacts first and foremost. that way whenever I flash a rom as soon as I sign in to google I have all my contacts back. Then I add the facebook account... etc.

Works for me

Same here. I don't worry too much about messages and there are plenty of apps to backup apps. Titanuim seems to be the most favoured.
